SGIM Nominations are Open

We need your help in identifying outstanding leaders for SGIM. SGIM's leadership positions offer great opportunities to shape the future of our discipline. This year, we will elect four individuals: President-elect, Secretary-elect, and two Council members.

Candidates for president-elect or secretary-elect should have the following attributes: a strong track record of commitment and service to the Society: proven collaborative leadership skills; the ability to integrate the SGIM's diverse interests; excellent communication skills (president); and dedication to advancing SGIM's mission. Candidates for the Council positions should be innovators and collaborators but also reliable. All candidates should be recognized as persons who are able to deliver on their commitments.

WHO: Nominate your respected colleagues or yourself if you are interested. Our Bylaws require that nominees must be Full or Emeritus Members of the Society.

WHERE:In our continued efforts to "go green", we are conducting nominations electronically once again. You will not receive a paper nomination form this year. Please use the link below to submit your nominations online to the SGIM office:

Online Nominations website: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/H8RLSCD

DEADLINE: All nominations must be received by Monday, October 28, 2013 5:00pm EST

The Nominations Committee will review all nominations and develop a final slate of candidates. Any candidate asked to run will be asked to fill out SGIM's Conflict of Interest Policy.

Forum is Looking for a New Editor!

SGIM is undertaking a search for the next editor(s) of the Society newsletter: SGIM Forum. The term of editorship is from July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2017. The new editor(s) will have responsibility for the August 1, 2014 issue.

Individuals and co-editors are both encouraged to apply. In addition to coordinating publication of the Forum, the Editor(s) is an ex-officio member of the Council and, therefore, attends Council retreats, participates in monthly Council Conference calls, and is an important contributor to Council deliberations and communications. Thus, the position is also a pathway to highly visible Society leadership at a national level.

Junior faculty are encouraged to apply for this position, in concert with a mid-career or senior faculty member who can serve as a mentor.

This position would require approximately 8-10 hours of time per month and may include a stipend of up to $10,000 per contract year (in total, NOT per co-editor if teams choose to apply). The deadline to apply is December 2, 2013. Read the full RFP here.

SGIM Website Named Outstanding Website by Web Marketing Association

The Web Marketing Association has named the Society of General Internal Medicine as an Outstanding Website.

Founded by the Web Marketing Association in 1997, the WebAwards is the annual standards-defining competition that sets industry benchmarks for the best websites in 96 industry categories submitted by interactive agencies and website marketing departments in more than 47 countries from around the world. The goal of the WebAwards is to provide a forum to recognize the people and organizations responsible for developing some of the most effective websites on the Internet today and to provide a solid point of reference, significant and valuable marketing opportunities and feedback to the professionals whose websites are entered.

As an Outstanding Website winner, Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM.org) engaged Bridgeline Digital to redevelop its main website and consolidate and enhance two microsites run by SGIM affiliate groups: the Association of Chiefs in General Internal Medicine (ACLGIM), and SGIM's Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM). Leveraging iAPPS' out-of-the-box integration with Perceptive Software Enterprise Search, the new site leverages search component catalogs natively within the iAPPS framework and indexes all media types.

This award marks the third time the SGIM website has been nationally recognized for its new, innovative site.Read the whole press release here.
