Chayan Chakraborti received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Duke University. Before attending medical school, Chayan Chakraborti taught biology and chemistry in a local New Orleans high school. He received his medical doctorate from Tulane University School of Medicine, and completed a residency in internal medicine at Charity Hospital. He continued on to the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where he participated in a fellowship program in Medical Education earning certifications in Teaching Skills and Curriculum Development. His current clinical duties are as attending hospitalist physician at ILH New Orleans (University Hospital).
Research Interests:
Dr. Chakraborti’s research and published manuscripts have involved healthcare utilization, case reports, teamwork training, and quality improvement effectiveness in medical education. He has designed several curricula for students and house staff in these areas and continues to participate in medical education research involving standardized patients and high-fidelity simulations. He continues to work regionally and nationally in these areas.
Teaching Interests:
Dr. Chakraborti Currently serves as the director for the introduction to clinical medicine course, "Foundations in Medicine". He actively teaches medical students and house staff on the wards and has earned the Leonard Tow Gold Humanism in Medicine award as well as the Tulane Student Advocacy Award for the last 3 years. Dr. Chakraborti serves on several standing committees including admissions, academic affairs, and student affairs at Tulane.
Clinical Interests:
Dr. Chakraborti’s clinical interests are in the areas of clinical reasoning, appropriate antibiotic use, and treating ulcers of the lower extremities. Dr. Chakraborti was the recipient of the institutional Owl Club award for Outstanding Internal Medicine Teaching Attending in 2011.
