SGIM Pays Off Our Mortgage!

In July 2014 the SGIM Council voted to pay off the remainder of the mortgage on the SGIM National Office in Alexandria, VA.We are excited to be able to use the additional funds in our annual budget to bring our members additional services in the near future.Look for exciting projects to come and get involved.

2013 Impact Factor Released

The 2013 impact factors were posted to Web of Science in late July and we are pleased to report that JGIM now has an impact factor of 3.423. This is an increase from the 2012 impact factor of 3.278. The journal is ranked within the category of Medicine, General and Internal and is now 23rd of 150 journals. The five-year impact is now 3.744, which is an increase over last year's 3.599.

Call for UpToDate Reviewers

 

SGIM is looking for additional SGIM members to review a series of educational materials from Up to Date Inc. UpToDate is an evidence based, peer reviewed information resource that includes a synthesis of literature, the latest evidence, and specific recommendations for patient care. Reviewers evaluate educational materials designed to inform patients and may be selected for one or more modules during the year. Eligible candidates should be practicing clinicians--please forward a CV to Leslie Dunne at

JGIM Medical Education Theme Issue: Assessing Innovation and Change in Medical Education

The goal of this Theme Issue is to highlight and promote rigorous research on current issues of

broad interest to medical education at any level. Topics of special interest include but are not

limited to:

  • Assessing competency
  • Clinical reasoning and critical thinking
  • Interprofessional collaboration and teamwork
  • Educationally sensitive patient outcomes
  • Studies pertaining to systems-based practice

Papers must be submitted by November 3, 2014, and should carefully adhere to JGIM's online

instructions for authors (www.jgim.org). All medical education submissions received during the

current call will be considered for the Theme Issue, with an anticipated print publication time frame of Fall 2015.Read the full call here.

The SGIM Disparities Task Force Health Disparities Education: Train the Trainer Guide is now available on MedEdPortal, AAMC's online peer-reviewed compendium of medical education scholarship.

 

Health Disparities Education Train-the-Trainer Guide

This comprehensive tool is used to facilitate developing, implementing and evaluating health disparities education. The Guide includes five modules that highlight several fundamental concepts in health disparities, suggestions for teaching about health disparities in a wide range of settings, and strategies for curriculum evaluation at various stages of training for undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education.

 

 

 

Cancer Control Career Development Awards for Primary Care Physicians

 

The American Cancer Society is pleased to announce the 2015 Cancer Control Career Development Award for Primary Care Physicians (CCCDA), which encourages and assists primary care physicians who will pursue academic careers with an emphasis on cancer control. CCCDA provides opportunities for promising individuals to acquire and enhance knowledge and skills in primary care practice, education, and research activities related to cancer control. Awards are for three years and for up to $100,000 per year. A maximum of $10,000 per year fora mentor may be included in the budget. An informational call will be offered August 26 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
