Nominations for SGIM Leadership Open

 

We need your help in identifying outstanding leaders for SGIM. SGIM's leadership positions offer great opportunities to shape the future of our discipline. This year, we will elect four individuals: President-elect, Treasurer-elect, and two Council members.

 

Candidates for president-elect or treasurer-elect should have the following attributes: a strong track record of commitment and service to the Society: proven collaborative leadership skills; the ability to integrate the SGIM's diverse interests; excellent communication skills; and dedication to advancing SGIM's mission.


Candidates for the Council positions should be innovators and collaborators and have prior evidence of contributing to SGIM at the national or regional levels. All candidates should be recognized as persons who are reliable and able to deliver on their commitments.

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)

AHRQ has consolidated two of its existing centers-the Center for Primary Care, Prevention, and Clinical Partnerships and the Center for Outcomes and Evidence-to form the Center for Evidence and Practice Improvement. The new center focuses on accelerating practice improvement across the health care system and engaging stakeholders to promote the implementation of evidence into practice. The new center also includes the National Center for Excellence in Primary Care Research, a home for AHRQ's evidence and tools about improving primary health care

Program Awards

 

The National Institutes of Health Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs) repay the student loans of doctoral level, biomedical or behavioral scientists conducting research funded by nonprofit institutions. The application cycle opens on September 1, 2014 and closes on November 17, 2014. You may be eligible to receive up to $70,000 of qualified educational debt repayment with a 2 year contract.

Deadline to submit is October 6, 2014 at 8:59 AM EASTERN TIME

 

Want to help plan the annual meeting? All SGIM members are eligible to review submissions.Visit the SGIM Volunteer Centerand download the 2015 annual meeting peer review volunteer form and send it in.

 

The deadline to volunteer to review Abstracts, Vignettes and Innovations is November 12, 2014.

Review period is January 13-27, 2015.

 

Content is already being planned and nine Special Symposia have been identified:

  1. Integrating mobile technologies for the treatment of drug and alcohol use disorders
  2. Defense against the Dark Arts: Understanding and Challenging Health Care Corruption
  3. Leadership - Lessons from the field
  4. From Screening to End of Life: Caring for Patients across the Cancer Control Continuum

  6. Enhancing Communication for Effective and Efficient Healthcare Teams
  7. Over and Underscreening Older Adults
  8. Caring for Adults with Intellectual and Physical Disabilities
  9. Informatics in GIM research and patient care

Save the Date:The Society of General Internal Medicine is pleased to announce the date and location of the New England Regional Meeting taking placeMarch 27, 2015in Boston, MA at the Joseph B. Martin Conference Center - Harvard Medical School.

 

For the very first time, we are offering a Post- regional meeting "New England SGIM 2015 Clinical Teaching Skills workshop" March 28, 2015 at Tufts University School of Medicine. This will feature important topics in clinical teaching and include some topics from the Stanford Faculty Development Program for Clinical Teachers. Additional fees apply. Open to all levels (housestaff, junior faculty, senior faculty).
