Join SGIM to #SaveAHRQ

The House Appropriations Committee has voted to abolish the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), while the Senate committee cut AHRQ's appropriated funds by 35 percent.

There is still time to restore funding for AHRQ, but we must act quickly!

The cuts are contained in the Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill (HR 3020; S 1695) that will be the subject of budget negotiations taking place over the next two weeks.

Congress needs to hear from those of us on the front lines of health care that AHRQ's research, tools and datasets are being used right now to help us understand and improve a complex and costly health care system-information that can help us achieve better outcomes for more people at greater value.

SGIM encourages all of its members to contact their elected officials today. Tell them:

  • The information developed with AHRQ's support is being used now by patients, physicians, hospitals, purchasers and payers to improve health and health care.
  • AHRQ is the only federal agency whose sole purpose is to produce evidence to make health care safer, higher quality and more accessible, equitable and affordable.

Contact your legislators today and act on SGIM's advocacy alert or tweet using these sample messages:

  • Restore funding to AHRQ $364 million in the Labor-HHS bill. #SaveAHRQ #SGIMadvocacy
  • Our nation's health is not a zero-sum proposition. Restore funding for AHRQ in the Labor-HHS bill #SaveAHRQ #SGIMadvocacy
  • Cuts to AHRQ hurt patients #SaveAHRQ #SGIMadvocacy
  • #SGIMadvocacy asks Congress to #SaveAHRQ
