POLITICO Pro Health Care Briefing: Scope of Practice in the ACA Era

On June 21st, POLITICO's Pro Health Care team convened leading experts to examine the policy debate over broadening and enhancing the health care workforce, particularly in primary care, mental health and aging. Questions addressed included: How can the industry address these unmet primary care needs? Will moving towards a more team-based care model breakdown scope of practice barriers? What are the current state trends? What federal policies can help?

SGIM's Response to the ABIM Proposal to Grant Practice Assessment Credit to Program Directors and Faculty

Occasionally, SGIM works with our members and other organizations to help impact policies and influence decision makers at the national level.Below are comments SGIM has recently provided to ABIM on their proposal to grant practice assessment credit to program directors and faculty:

• SGIM feels it would be helpful for the ABIM to be specific in defining "substantial" involvement and for program directors to then attest that they are meeting this requirement in order to receive MOC credit.
• SGIM supports the proposal that program directors be allowed to grant Practice Assessment MOC credit to faculty that have direct and significant contribution to resident and fellow quality improvement and patient safety activities.
• SGIM would also encourage the development and implementation of a model empowering faculty to apply directly to the ABIM for the MOC credit.

Call for New JGIM Editors

July 8 Deadline Approaching

The Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) is pleased to request letters of interest regarding the position of Editor(s)-in-Chief for the Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM).

This Call For Letters of Intent solicits initial letters of interest in the position of JGIM Editor(s)-in-Chief, for a five- year term commencing July 1, 2017.

The requirements for the initial letter of interest are as follows:

• Two-page letter outlining the candidate's general vision for the Journal, both JGIM online and in print, briefly summarizing his/her editorial and/or other relevant experience, and providing a partial listing of the individuals who would be expected to be key personnel for the editorial team and their institution(s) (e.g., potential associate/deputy editors).
• Candidate's Curriculum Vitae, including prior SGIM involvement.Candidates MUST be SGIM members in good standing at the time of their application.
