Bio

I am a general internist at Emory University School of Medicine. In addition to patient care and teaching, I serve as Medical Director of Primary Care. With an interest in social determinants of health, I have led a variety of interdisciplinary and community-based research projects, including Every Block a Village Online (a community-based health technology program) and Project ECHO, which uses videoconference technology to train primary care physicians on the treatment of chronic, complex diseases. Prior work includes studying the impact of novel strategies to increase breast cancer screening and conducting focus groups to determine perceptions of breast cancer treatment among diverse populations. Other studies focused on the role of electronic health records in identifying patients with undiagnosed hypertension and the use of text messaging to enhance self-care and outcomes among patients with diabetes. I previously chaired SGIM's Board of Regional Leaders and now serve as Co-Chair of SGIM's CaREER Development Workgroup.
