One-on-One Mentoring

SGIM_Mentoring_1on1.pngSGIM One-on-One Mentoring Program offers 2024 Annual Meeting registrants the opportunity to be matched with a mentor or mentee based on shared interests and career paths.

We encourage matched mentors and mentees to communicate and meet onsite in Boston. It’s a great way to network, learn from one another, ask for career advice, or ask an experienced member to give input on your presentation.

New this year! We are pleased to offer targeted one-on-one mentor matching for general medicine research fellows and residents interested in a general medicine research fellowship. If you are a current general medicine research fellow, have completed your research fellowship within the past two years, or are a resident interested in a general medicine research fellowship, please let us know when completing your One-on-One Mentoring Program application. We will match you with an experienced general medicine researcher. Similarly, if you are a generalist researcher willing to mentor research fellows, please let us know when you complete your One-on-One Mentoring Program application.

Sign-up to be a mentor or mentee here!

Space is limited. Participation is first come, first-served. Contact Jillian Gann at gannj@sgim.org if you need assistance.

Mentee Expectations:

The success of this program is due to the generosity of SGIM members willing to share time, insight, and experience with other SGIM members. Please review the following expectations to better understand your role as a mentee.

  • Mentees will select a mentor based on a compatibility score. As a mentee, you are responsible to inviting a compatible mentor to be matched.
  • Mentees are expected to initiate communication with their mentors and are expected to meet at least once during the 2024 SGIM Annual Meeting at a mutually convenient time.
  • If a mentee does not match with a mentor by Monday, May 6, 2024, they will be administratively matched. If a mentee does not communicate with their mentor by Friday, May 10, 2024, they may be removed from the program.
  • Mentees are expected to have a plan and thoughtfully manage the mentor/mentee relationship to establish goals and mutual expectations of their meeting and any subsequent communications.
  • Many mentors attend their mentee’s oral and/or poster presentation(s) to provide support and feedback. If you would like feedback from your mentor, please indicate so in your mentee profile.
  • After your initial meeting, you and your mentor are welcome to meet again throughout the conference or use the SGIM One on One Mentoring platform to chat or schedule meetings after the meeting.
  • The mentor/mentee connection in the SGIM One on One mentoring platform will close on June 14, 2024.
  • We ask all mentors and mentees to complete a post-program survey about their experience in the One-on-One Mentoring Program.
