In Memoriam:
Fred Brancati
internationally recognized expert on the epidemiology and prevention of type 2 diabetes and longtime director of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, died Tuesday May 14 after a long struggle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was 53.
Fred was a truly remarkable person. To his colleagues, he was a brilliant scientist with a brilliant sense of humor. For the 200+ faculty and staff in the Division of General Internal Medicine, he was an extremely supportive and effective leader. For his students and trainees, he was a superb mentor. In all roles, he was warm and compassionate - he cared deeply about people.
Fred was a longtime SGIM member, past president of ACLGIM, and an all around great guy. We will miss him greatly.
