Join SGIM for Hill Day 2014

March 11-12 in Washington, DC

http://www.sgim.org/communities/advocacy/hill-day

As federal budget negotiations continue in Congress, there has never been a better time to advocate on behalf of programs that support general internists and our patients. Given the increasing demand for physicians, it will be particularly important to advocate for a Graduate Medical Education (GME) system that better directs the development of a physician workforce to provide high-quality, high-value, population-based health care. SGIM must also continue to advocate for protecting Medicare, Title VII, NIH and AHRQ.

Hill Day events will begin with an orientation for first-time participants at 4pm on March 11. At 5:30 SGIM will host a small reception where we will hear from Fitzhugh S. M. Mullan, MD, Murdock Head Professor of Medicine and Health Policy at the George Washington University School of Public Health & Health Services, who will speak on this year's main theme: GME Reform. We'll meet up on March 12 at the Rayburn House Office Building for a small briefing and breakfast before making scheduled Congressional visits.

Registration deadline is January 27, 2014.For more information, contact Mark Schwartz mark.schwartz@nyumc.org(Chair, SGIM health Policy Committee) or Francine Jetton, SGIM Director of Communications, at jettonf@sgim.org.

Forum is Looking for a New Editor! - Deadline Extended

SGIM is undertaking a search for the next editor(s) of the Society newsletter: SGIM Forum. The term of editorship is from July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2017. The new editor(s) will have responsibility for the August 1, 2014 issue.

Individuals and co-editors are both encouraged to apply. In addition to coordinating publication of the Forum, the Editor(s) is an ex-officio member of the Council and, therefore, attends Council retreats, participates in monthly Council Conference calls, and is an important contributor to Council deliberations and communications. Thus, the position is also a pathway to highly visible Society leadership at a national level.

Junior faculty are encouraged to apply for this position, in concert with a mid-career or senior faculty member who can serve as a mentor.

This position would require approximately 8-10 hours of time per month and may include a stipend of up to $10,000 per contract year (in total, NOT per co-editor if teams choose to apply). The deadline to apply is January 8, 2014. Read the full RFP here.
