Women and Medicine Task Force Career Advising Program (CAP)

 

At the 2014 Annual Meeting, SGIM's Women and Medicine Task Force will once again sponsor its Career Advising Program (CAP), a longitudinal mentoring initiative to help female junior faculty navigate the academic promotion process. Advising focuses on CV preparation, targeted committee membership, and strategies for relationship-building with external letter writers. Be sure to sign up my March 12th!Learn more.

President Obama has named Dr. Hardeep Singh, Houston VA Medical Center, as one of the 102 researchers who are this years' recipients of the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers, the highest honor bestowed by the United States Government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers. "The impressive achievements of these early-stage scientists and engineers are promising indicators of even greater successes ahead," President Obama said. "We are grateful for their commitment to generating the scientific and technical advancements that will ensure America's global leadership for many years to come." Read the full press release here.

Interested in advocating for SGIM issues on Hill Day (March 12) but can't make it to Washington?We will be sending out a Congressional alert that morning to make sure that ALL SGIM voices can be heard!Watch your email box for information on SGIM's advocacy positions (the theme of this year's Hill Day is GME Reform) and make sure to contact your Congressional representative on March 12.

Attention Institutions

Group Discounts Available for SGIM Associate Members

 

Is your institution sending a large group of associates to San Diego?SGIM associate members (medical students, residents, and fellows) from the same institution are eligible for discounted Annual Meeting registration fees. To qualify for this group discount, one registration form for the entire group must arrive at the SGIM office with payment included no later than April 10th, 2014.The institution must pay for all registrations. A $25 administrative fee will apply after the Early Registration deadline of March 12th, 2014.

CALIFORNIA-HAWAII

Thank you to everyone for a successful meeting in Palo Alto! If you attended the meeting, information regarding our online CME application and overall Meeting Evaluation will be sent out to all registrants. A special congratulations to ouroral and poster presentation award recipients.

 

The California-Hawaii SGIM Awards Selection Committee is excited to announce this year's regional award recipients: Dr. Rebecca Shunk from the University of University of California, San Francisco has graciously received the 2014 California-Hawaii SGIM Leader in GIM award, Dr. Bob K. Oye from University of California, Los Angeles was selected as for our 2014 California - Hawaii SGIM Senior Leader in General Internal Medicine award, Dr. Marina Martin from Stanford University selected for the 2014 California-Hawaii SGIM Advocacy and Community Service Award, and Dr. Michael E. Lazarus from University of California, Los Angeles has been chosen as the 2014 California-Hawaii SGIM Clinician Educator of the Year. A special congratulations to these two for their exceptional work and dedication to the California- Hawaii region!

 

Voting for the 2014 Calfornia-Hawaii SGIM President-Elect is now open. We have an exceptional candidate, Dr. Robert Goodman from Cedar-Sinai Medical Center. Voting is for current members only! To submit your vote, please use the membership login and select surveys from the left hand menu. Then, locate the California-Hawaii Regional Election 2014. Deadline for voting is Friday, March 14th at 11:59pm PST. Voting is reserved for current members of SGIM only. Formal announcement will be made via email to the California-Hawaii membership on Monday, March 17th.

 

NORTHWEST

Thank you to everyone for a successful meeting in Seattle! If you attended the meeting, information regarding our online CME application and overall Meeting Evaluation will be sent out to all registrants. The Northwest SGIM Awards Selection Committee is excited to announce this year's regional award recipients: Dr. Melissa "Moe" Hagman from the University of Washington has been honored with the 2014 Northwest SGIM Clinician Educator award and Dr. Devan Kansagara from Portland VA Medical Center has been chosen as the 2014 Northwest SGIM Clinician Investigator award. A special congratulations to these two for their exceptional work and dedication to the Northwest region!

 

Voting for the 2014 Northwest SGIM President-Elect and Secretary-Treasurer is now open. We have two outstanding candidates, Dr. Michael Krug from University running for President-Elect and Dr. Chris Wong from University of Washington running for Secretary-Treasurer. Voting is for current members only! To submit your vote, please use the membership login and select surveys from the left hand menu. Then, locate the Northwest Regional Election 2014. Deadline for voting is Friday, March 14th at 11:59pm PST. Voting is reserved for current members of SGIM only. SOUTHERN

The Southern SGIM Awards Selection Committee is excited to announce this year's regional award recipients: Dr. Carlos A. Estrada from the University of Alabama at Birmingham has graciously received the 2014 Southern SGIM Senior Leader and Mentor in GIM award and Dr. Danielle Jones from Emory University School of Medicine has selected as the 2014 Southern SGIM Clinician Educator award. A special congratulations to these two for their exceptional work and dedication to the Southern region!

 

It is with great excitement that we announce Dr. Erin Snyder from University of Alabama at Birmingham as our newly elected 2014-2015 President-Elect! Dr. Snyder is quickly proving to be a great addition to our Southern Leadership Board.Congratulations, and we look forward to everyone's great leadership throughout the year!
