March 11-12, 2014

Advocate on Hill Day for GIM Issues!

Be An Armchair Advocate!

Can't make it to Hill Day in person? This year we'll be offering a "Virtual Hill Day" component to the actual visits to the Hill by SGIM members in March.

The Advocacy section of the SGIM website has a ton of material to help with your advocacy.

  1. Read through the background materials that we have already distributed to the advocates who will physically be present on the Hill.
  2. Ready for more?Read through the materials that Hill Day participants will "leave behind" when they meet with Congressional representatives and staffers in the following areas of GIM.
  3. Familiar with the material? On Wednesday March 12 you will receive an email asking for you to contact your representative and ask for funding for Graduate Medical Education. It's easy--complete a few steps, add in your contact information and click finish and your email will be sent to your members of Congress.
  4. Want more?Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Tweet your members of Congress using the hashtag #sgimadvocacy (see sidebar) or post to your friends on Facebook.

How Do I Learn About SGIM's Advocacy Positions?

Learn about the Congressional process and how YOU can become an effective advocate by viewing the documents in theAdvocacy 101 area. You can also read themonthly advocacy documentswritten by our government relations specialists or ramp up your advocacy education by reading past Quick Hits, SGIM's member advocacy newsletter. You can also look at the collectivelegislative endorsementson which SGIM is a signatory.

Sincerely,
