  • Follow-up from Meeting: April 8, 2022

Notes from our Meeting Friday 4.8.22 at SGIM National Conference

Sorry – I did not take attendance! There were 18 people, which is not bad for a 7 am meeting!

    • We reviewed available clinical educational experiences for medical students and residents. Here are some options. Please reply via SGIM connect with additional opportunities you are aware of!
      1. Montefiore/Albert Einstein: rotation includes clinical work on Rikers Island.
      2. Brown: rotation with the Rhode Island DOC
      3. Denver Health: possible elective opportunities
    • Aaron Fox: a group is convening to consider a pilot of a universal longitudinal medical school curriculum for correctional health care. Think about if your school/institution might be a good candidate – needs to be implemented as a core course (not elective) and with longitudinal exposure across 4 years. Stay tuned for more details.
    • There is an SGIM policy paper / white paper in the works on Health and Incarceration. Please let us know if you are interested in working on this!
    • Name change – general consensus among those present to change the name to “Health, Justice, and Incarceration”. Please bring any thoughts or concerns to the group if you have them!
    • We are going to update the SGIM Connect page in the coming days with additional resources for reading material, conferences to attend, and very good listservs to join!
