I'm writing to make you aware of a terrific opportunity: SARET'S inaugural Visiting Mentor Development Program in Summer 2020. The application deadline – March 15, 2020 – is fast approaching!
THE OPPORTUNITY
NYU is accepting applications for SARET's Visiting Mentor Development Program. SARET, the NIDA-funded Substance Abuse Research Education and Training program, trains future physicians, nurses, dentists, social workers, and public health professionals in substance use disorder (SUD) research. The Visiting Mentor Development Program offers the opportunity to spend a week in NYC training to become a SARET champion for your institution. Visiting Mentors will receive ongoing technical assistance and guidance, tailored to their institutional context, to help them develop SUD research training programs at their schools/institutions. A 1-page SARET flyer, with sample calendar for the 4-day program, is attached.
ABOUT SARET
The NIDA-funded Substance Abuse Research Education and Training (SARET) program fosters health professions students' lasting engagement in substance use disorder (SUD) research. An interdisciplinary initiative, SARET uses a modular web-based curriculum and mentored research placements to activate the interest of students in schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry, social work, and public health (including at the doctoral and masters levels) in SUD-related research careers. Participating in SARET's mentored research experience has an enduring impact on trainees' interest in SUD research. PROGRAM DETAILS
Date: June 16-19, 2020
Location: New York University
Cost: Tuition and ongoing mentorship is free. Applicant must cover travel costs.
Eligibility: Applicants should meet the following criteria to apply:
1) Evidence of interest in substance use disorders and research
2) Commitment to and experience teaching
3) Letter of support from home institution
4) Must be faculty in one of the following health-related professions: medicine, dentistry, nursing, social work or public health
