  • SGIM 2017!!

    Hi all,
I wanted to start by thanking those of you that made the LGBT Health Interest group meeting in DC. I am well aware of the great sacrifices you made to attend the 6:45 AM session and greatly appreciate all of your thoughts and input.

This really is a fantastic group and I'm excited we get to work together.

As a reminder, next year's meeting theme is Health Informatics. Here are the workshop submissions we brainstormed at the meeting with assignments/leads:
    1) Honoring patients as teachers: Incorporating learners into clinical interactions with vulnerable populations--Pam and Joe will lead and reach out to Women's Health and Refugee health interest groups
    2) The LGBT friendly EHR: Best practices for EHR's to be inclusive of our diverse patients--Robin and Carl will take the lead. Carl has contacts at Vanderbilt; I am also happy to help as we and some folks at Denver Health have recently done some work in this area.
    3) Trans Health--Megan, Jules, Robin, and Helene have volunteered
    4) PrEP--Viraj is planning on working with HIV interest group on this
    5) Leveraging technology to engage vulnerable populations--Viraj will reach out to medical informatics interest group; please let me know if you want me to reach out to Disparities Task Force as well.
    6) Clinical Vignettes--Zoe, Caitlin, and Joan will each submit a clinical vignette (or more). Please know that we'd all be willing to help review/revise if you'd like.

There were other ideas for workshops related to Advocacy via the EHR, Advanced Sexual History taking, and Implicit Bias.

We want to make sure to support our students, residents, and junior faculty so please do speak up if you want to join one of the existing topics or develop a new one. I believe each workshop can have 1 lead and 3 additional faculty listed (that doesn't more can't help out).

I'll see you in Denver next year! It is my "home town" so please let me know if you have any questions about the area. The meeting will be held toward the end of ski season, so I offer unsolicited outdoor advice as well! ;-)

    Best,
    Rita
