  • #SGIM20 Submissions Around the Corner

    Hi everyone,

We hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer and thanks to all who joined us for the HIV/AIDS Interest Group at the #SGIM19 meeting in DC last spring! It was great to see you and hear about your innovative work and ideas.

The call for submissions for next year’s meeting is just around the corner, and workshops will be due September 26th. Please find a summary of our last interest group meeting and potential ideas for this year below.

    Leadership

Jen Edelman announced that she will be moving on from her HIV/AIDS IG leadership role, and we welcomed Tabor Flickinger, who will be joining Jessica Taylor as HIV/AIDS IG Co-Leader. Thanks to Jen for her leadership and support of other IG members over the past eight years– we are so appreciative for the strong network you have built!

    Opportunities for Collaboration

Below are some of the ideas we discussed for academic collaboration, including workshops and update ideas for the 2020 annual meeting, which will focus on social determinants of health.

We jotted down a few people who expressed interest and the more the merrier – please reach out if you’d like to get involved so we can connect you! Likewise, this is meant to be a conversation starter and not an assignment, so don’t worry if you’re listed for a topic that doesn’t align with interests and/or availability.

We also discussed utilizing the collective wisdom of the group to support one another on HIV-related projects. Input can always be solicited via the SGIM Connect HIV/AIDS IG Listserv. For example, journal selection can be tough as a junior faculty. Members of the group recommended considering:

    • AIDS & Behavior for PrEP pieces
    • Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (JANEC) for brief reports (quick response)
    • JGIM - clinical vignettes
