    Hi folks - I have a couple of questions regarding your hospitalist programs:
    1) as an adjunct to supporting the academic development and productivity of hospitalists in your program, do you provide any protected time (e.g. "academic time") for your hospitalists? What other infrastructure support do you provide to this end?
    2) do any of you provide a stipend or other salary differential for the Directors of your hospitalist program(s) to recognize their leadership and support their administrative roles, over and above simply providing support for their administrative time? If so, do you have any external basis (i.e., benchmarks) upon which you base this salary differential. I haven't been able to find anything in the MGMA or SHM publications.

    many thanks and hope all is well.
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
    To answer your questions;
    Our hospital provides protected academic time to our hospitalists (43 hospitalists) equivalent to 4 shifts a month.
    Regarding Leadership, only the Chief of Hospital Medicine has a differential pay; the rest of us who are in a leadership position (i.e; associate chief, director of procedure service, consult service, ACUTE, etc) get protected administrative time but no differential pay.
