The Health, Justice, and Incarceration Interest Group is designed for clinicians, educators, researchers, and policy makers interested in the impact of the criminal legal system on individual, family, and community health. The United States incarcerates more people than any other country in the world with extensive implications on population health. We seek to foster discussion and collaboration among attendees of the interest group related to patient care, research, advocacy, and education initiatives.
Participants at all levels of training and experience are welcomed. We meet annual at the SGIM meeting, which is an opportunity to share our interests and experiences, reassess priority areas, discuss successful projects and initiatives, and plan future collaborations. Between meetings we use the GIM Connect forum to keep interest group members connected over active issues.
Of note, this group was formerly Criminal Justice and Health Interest Group. At the 2022 interest group meeting the group decided to change the name to Health, Justice, and Incarceration Interest Group.
