Dr. Joy is Medical Director with The Colorado Health Foundation and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He received his MD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His postgraduate education included a residency in internal medicine at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, and he completed a MBA degree at East Carolina University. Dr. Joy was a faculty member for 15 years at Duke University Health System. While at Duke, he served as medical director for Duke Primary Care and an Associate Director of Managed Care for the Duke Private Diagnostics Clinics.
Dr. Joy’s research interests include process improvement in diabetes management and education, the role of genetic testing for pre-diabetes and cholesterol management, the application of pharmacogenomic principles in clinical decision-making, and applications of technology and quality improvement process into clinical practice. He has published articles and abstracts in such publications as Diabetes, The Journal of Clinical Outcomes Management, The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, and
The Journal of General Internal Medicine.
He is active in health policy issues, and serves as National Chairperson of the Clinical Practice Health Policy Committee for the Society of General Internal Medicine. Dr. Joy received recognition from the NCQA for excellence in diabetes care, heart and stroke care, and practice management, including level 3 certification for the Patient-centered Medical Home.
